APPAREL GRAPHIC DESIGN and textile design for mens shirts

I like to walk around Los Angeles, a city that people love labeling an “un-walkable” city. One of my favorite areas is Wilshire Blvd. in Koreatown. I really love this bar, tHe h.M.S. Bounty and its very old sign.

passion project: “it’s a trip man…”

denim laser design inspired by pool reflections

In the summer of 2014, I was living in a studio apartment in Koreatown with no amenities. The summer came and I made a habit of sneaking into apartment buildings and using their pools. You just have to dress the part and exude an air of confidence that matches the residents/visitors to these places. The Gaylord Apartment building on Wilshire had a shamrock shaped pool and when the shade crept along slowly as the afternoon went by, I captured the photo to the right. This image was always imprinted in my mind because the reflections in the pool created such a beautiful trippy and melodic texture.

10 years later, my desire to recreate this as wearable art manifested on denim with laser technology. I designed original prints taken from some initial inspiration photos and created 2 layers (The laser burned the base design and then again with a second layer of the design directly on top of each other) The overlay was achieved with precision and a high level of meticulousness, to adjust the gray scales to burn more intensively for a greater high/low- high contrast effect.
